Local Tallahassee chef and small business owner Nikki Pettineo will be a featured contestant in an episode of the new TBS reality cooking show, “Rat in the Kitchen,” airing at 9 p.m. May 26.

Over the course of the 10-episode season, a mix of professional chefs and passionate home cooks compete in a series of creative cooking challenges, earning cash in their bank for every dish that impresses Chef Ludo Lefebvre, while attempting to expose an undercover mole (the rat) determined to sabotage the dishes and undermine their chances at victory.
“Being on Rat in the Kitchen was really exciting because it is not your average cooking show. You have to focus on the cooking, but also keep your eyes and ears open for sabotage to the dish. I’m always up for a challenge to test my cooking skills in new ways,” Pettineo said.
The episode titled “The Case of the Awful Waffles,” exposes six chefs to waffle sabotage as teams struggle to identify the rat and win up to $50,000. Chef Pettineo, a chef instructor at a local prison and small business owner of seasoning company Pro Seasoning, was most concerned about flavor optics.
“The twist with Rat in the Kitchen is that, at any point, sabotage is possible. An example would be the ‘Rat’ secretly over or under-seasoning your dish and bombing the taste, which is my personal nightmare.”
Chef Pettineo will host a watch party of the “The Case of the Awful Waffles” episode from 8-10 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at the RedEye Coffee location in Midtown. The community is invited to attend and cheer on their hometown chef as she competes to either expose or sabotage her competitors.
Chef Pettineo will also hold a Pop-Up Waffle tasting with RedEye Coffee Specialty Flight pairing from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, June 12. Tickets for the event will be advertised on all social media pages for Chef Nikki Pettineo (@chefnikki on Instagram, NikkiTalksFood on Facebook and Twitter), Pro Seasoning (chefnikki.net), and RedEye Coffee (redeyecoffee.com).
